Message: 2 Date: Wed, 21 Dec 2005 14:18:12 -0000 From: Davie L Gordon Subject: Herb Bernstein -- '60s discography Somebody asked about Herb Bernstein recently, which prompted me to have another look at a listing of his work I've been working on (off and on) for about three years. I've hit a dead end trying to track down the last few of his BMI listed songs, and since the list is probably as complete as it's gonna get I've decided to post it as a Xmas present to my Spectropop friends. If anybody can fill in the few missing producer credits or add to the list I'd be grateful. Writer credits have been omitted in most cases where Herb wasn't the writer or co-writer. Message: 3 Date: Tue, 20 Dec 2005 22:38:18 -0000 From: Jana B Subject: Time to jump in...... I've belonged to this group for quite a long time now, but there's so many experts here, I haven't really felt like I've had a lot to contribute. So, hi, nice to meet all of you. I've .enjoyed learning how much I really haven't known about music! I got an e-mail from my godson who's currently living in London, and since he was born, we've always shared a common love of all things music. (As a sort of legacy to him when he turned 21, I gave him ALL my vinyl, going back to about 1963. Yeah, still sometimes can't believe I did it, either...LOL!) Anyway, in his latest e-mail he told me about some friends of his that have a girl group called The Pipettes. I thought I'd share their link with all of you, in case you're interested in checking them out: http://www.thepipettes.co.uk It's really different to me than most of the new music groups around these days, and I'd never heard of them here in the States. While looking around the website, I found three Christmas songs, too. Happy holidays to all! Jana B. -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------
Message: 4 Date: Tue, 20 Dec 2005 16:09:47 -0800 (PST) From: Steve Harvey Subject: Re: Jerry Lordan Einar Einarsson Kvaran asked: > It ["Apache"] was written by "Lordan" -- was that Jerry Lordan? Yes, Jerry Lordan was the secret weapon behind the Shadows. Most Americans know "Apache" which he wrote, but nothing else. In addition to the instrumentals that he wrote he wrote "I'm A Moody Guy" which Shane "Call Me Alvin" Fenton had a hit with in the pre-Beatles days. One of the few pre-Beatle British rockers worth a listen. It's interesting that Lordan wrote for Tony and Jet after they jumped ship. I would be curious to know if The Shadows continued to do his tunes afterwards. He's definately worth a piece. I think one of the Shadows sites does have something on him. "Tommy Lesslie" is actually Snuff Garrett, longtime Liberty Records head of production. He co-wrote several songs with Leon Russell under that name. After looking at Lyn's wonderful http://www.poparchives.com.au site, I am now wondering whether I shouldn't be asking for the Eternal Flame version. That seems to be the one that was released in the US. Randy -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------

Going through my old Shadows 45s I find Lordan writing "Mustang" from an EP with Harris & Meehan on the cover and then "Atlantis" in 1963 [not sure who is playing on it] and finally "Petrina Lordan" writes "A Place in the Sun", also 1963. So ... I'd say this is inconclusive as to what happened between the Shadows, Harris, Meehan and Jerry Lordan around 1963. But I am quite sure that someone out there knows.
