Hello Everyone,
Just in case there are some Martha Reeves Fans out there, I am selling
Martha's new CD done on her own label. It's called "Home To You". I
must say, even though I am Martha's Official Fan Club manager, THIS IS
A GREAT CD! Martha delivers flawless vocals and shows why she is called
the Queen Of Motown Soul! If anyone is interested please me know. Just
stop by: http://groups.yahoo.co0m/group/marthareevesthemotowndiva

P.S. Is Paul McCartney considered the most important (or should I say,
successsful?) pop artist?

Actually Alan, the two Everly twofers are not their best lps. Both
Sides of An Evening I always thought was their weakest. Still I'm
glad they are out there so I can stop listening to my scratchy
Warner Bros. lps that I collected in the 80s. There has been nothing
new in that series so I'm beginning to wonder if they have stopped it.
The ones you want are In Our Own Image and Two Yanks In England.
Pretty solid lps throughout, not to mention the Hollies and half of
Led Zepplin crawling all over Two Yanks. Wish they'd put out The New
Album. I got a beat one for $20 with no cover about 15 years ago and
haven't seen it since. Making CDs out of my Everly vinyl. There are
some gems from the 60s that weren't hits, but were tucked away on lps.
"Finding It Rough" with the fuzz guitar. By Hat and Tie who later became
Nirvana (the UK version).

Hello All,
I had completely forgotten about Chuck Jackson's single, "When The Fuel
Runs Out" until I saw it mentioned. It was one of my favorite dance
records during my disco days in the 70s (1979). It was on Channel
Records, probably the same Channel label on which Earl Lewis and The
Channels recorded, by 1979, a pink label with a picture of a radio band
on top. I remember having the 12" single, which got sold along with my
dee jay equipment in the mid-80s. I'd like to find a 7" for my collection.
Great tune!
Regards, John Clemente

Dear Rik- this is what I know about the "Carrie Nations" from BVD:
ALL of the vocals were done by singer Lynn Carey, daughter of the
late TV/film star Macdonald Carey. She has her own website at
http://www.lynncarey.com in which she discusses her days as the voices
behind "The Carrie Nations" and other projects in her long career.
Hope this helps!

Thanks team for playing this song to musica. Not sure whether or not
it is better than Mitch Ryder's version, but what a treat to hear it.
Thanks again, Mike Edwards

The songs sound different because the vocals are different. Lynn Carey
sang the vocals in the movie but they are not on the soundtrack. I
believe it has to do with payment of royalties. I think it was cheaper
to pay a no name, less talented singer for the soundtrack album instead
of Lynn so that's what they did. I remember when I got a boot of the
soundtrack thinking the songs weren't as good as I'd remembered. Later I
found out why.

For the record, Darlene Love was on the David Letterman Show tonight
for the 18th consecutive year singing "Christmas (Baby Please Come
Home)." In was a presentation worthy of an MGM musical, with full
orch, massed choir, atmospheric lighting, and no expenses spared on
the Lux Flakes. Darlene, with close-cropped blonde hair, pulled all
the stops out, sounding and looking wonderful. I wonder if Phil was
watching.

Can anyone give me some information about the Ladybirds?
A friend of mine is currently writing a book about Canterbury
music (admittedly a long way from Spectropop music) and would
like to know as much as possible about them as they sang on
some Canterbury music albums. I'll forward anything you can
come up with.
Thanks in advance

Chuck Jackson is a FABULOUS singer! I loved his duets with Cissy Houston!

I double checked with a friend who interviewed Lynn for a story. I
asked if my statement was totally correct about why she's not on the
soundtrack and here's what he said:

Wanted to say thank you very much for the Ronnie Spector track! Sounds
like the Harrison/Spector team had something good going. Too bad it
didn't last. I'm curious to hear where Phil takes the band(s) he's
working with now. Happy Holidays to all on the list.

Some years back, Ian (Brit Girls) Chapman wrote an article about
the Ladybirds for issue 5/6 of That Will Never...Happen...Again
magazine, a humble publication of which I was editor/publisher.
And very nice it was too, if I say so myself. The magazine cost
just a pound or two back in the day but copies currently change
hands for silly prices on eBay. However, I have a secret stash
tucked away under the bed. I usually give them to only the most
deserving of causes or gorgeous of people. Do you qualify on
either count? Either way, I'm in a rare generous mood, so send me
(off list) your address and, as soon as I feel like slipping into
something less comfortable, or run out of milk or fags, I'll
venture out into the wind and rain and pop a copy in the mail.
By the way, I believe Maggie Stredder of the Ladybirds has
recently published her autobiography. Has anyone seen it? Is it
worth buying?
MICK PATRICK
P.S. My record of the moment: Dick Dale "King Of The Surf Guitar"
(Capitol 4963, 04 /1963), written by Alonzo Willis of the Alley
Cats, produced by Jim Monsour, vocals by Darlene Love and the
Blossoms. Does anyone have a copy of the 45 to sell me?

I don't have the Condello LP but Mike Condello has an interesting
recording history. Condello had the house band on a Phoenix, AZ kid's
show Wallace & Ladmo during the mid-60s,. Under a bunch of different
names (Hub Kapp & Wheels, The Buggs ,The Munchkins) he did song parodies
& music for the show. Some of his song parodies are amazing copies of
relatively obscure LP tracks like The Bee Gees Red Chair Fadeaway and
Craise Vicent Kirk. He released several singles under the name Hub Kapp
& the Wheels (including a great cover of the Everly's Sigh, Cry, Almost
Die on Capitol) as well as two EPs under the name Commodore Condello Salt
River Navy Band. All his recorded material was released on a limited
edition CD Mike Condello Presents Wallace & Ladmo's Greatest Hits
(Epiphany).
