    Hey Spectropopers...

There was some talk a few weeks backs about HB and today I
picked up a few old 45's,one of which might be of interest
to their fans---it's on Warner Bros. (7063), dated 1967.
Side A is HB's version of Cole Porter's "Anything Goes"
and the flip is one that's new to me--"Malibu U". (It says
"from the TV show Malibu U" --did I miss this one?) Lenny
Waronker produced them both and Van Dyke Parks is listed
as the piano player on the Cole Porter tune. I don't
remember who the big HB fan was but if you want to have
this for your collection (gratis, of course) then let me
    know and it's yours.

    Regards to all, Jim

    Somehow, I said:

    > Ellie Greenwich/Jeff Barry, for all their great songs. I'm
    > also a sucker for their songs.

When I meant to say: "I'm also a sucker for Ellie's voice."
Particularly, I enjoy her version of "Maybe I Know" and
    much of the Raindrops' stuff.

Perhaps you should re-consider. Not only is Bob Crewe a
MAJOR part of the Four Seasons' output, he also parlayed a
1966 Diet Pepsi ad to worldwide fame as the monster hit,
"Music To Watch Girls By" and then, after touring England,
released the brilliant pop instrumental LP "Music To Watch
Birds By" (birds being Brit for gyrrrls ;-). THEN is was
onto the major earth-shattering soundtrack to
"Barbarella".......Jimmy Botticelli/So few knew Crewe, but
    now YOU do.

Jet's guitarist was Davy O'List, one of the founding
members of Keith Emerson's group, The Nice (Immediate
Records) and played some blistering Jeff Beck-ish solos on
    their first album.

    Two points.

First, it was only a few elitists revisionist rock writers
from the post-Beatles era who dissed Bobby Rydell. During
his days, he was a star.

Second, the Tammys never backed anyone except Lou Christie.

I heard from the Bobby Rydell mailing list that his
backing singers were a group called the Valkires (can't
remember the spelling) who were actually a group of
middle-aged black grandmothers. I used to think they were
a group of cute teenager girls with poni-tails.

    Hi Jack,

I saw the ad in the latest issue of Goldmine, another look
says that it will be available later this month, sorry.
Interesting about the Charmettes underdub version, I
hadn't noticed. I don't think I have heard the vinyl
version. I really enjoyed vol 1 but don't have the Kent
release to compare to, maybe those tracks will be released
on this next volume? Just gotta love Dolly Parton's Don't
Drop Out...complete with the Be My Baby drumbeat. Also
like Joey Heatherton's take on Lesley Gore's Live And
Learn. The Avons' Push A Little Harder was a surprise too.

Stewart, I'm surprised that you didn't mention the Lilys
when you were talking about the Elephant 6 stable of
groups with the '60s pop sound. It is an exceptionally
well done first effort. I guess with a singer from England,
    you can't go wrong;)

I did check out the CD by the group The Minders and it is
very good. It is amazing how many new groups are producing
very nice pop music influenced by the '60s sound. Dave
Mirich PS thanks to those of you who have recommended '60s
psych-pop albums. I have thoroughly enjoyed, The Monkees,
The Critters, The Creation, Small Faces, The Who (Sell out),
    Cryan' Shames, and The Smoke.

BTW, did anybody check out the Ladybug Transistor CD?
