Hi Will,

Sadly, Evie's AMAZING 1968 A&M LP "Any Way That You Want
Me" has never been reissued. I think that many
Spectropoppers will agree that the A&M catalog is perhaps
the most neglected of all in the sad Polygram/Universal/
MCA mess.

Both sides of her Blue Cat 45 "Take Me For a Little
While" is on the 4CD UK various artist compilation,
"The Red Bird Story."

Evie is still actively making GREAT music and my band
The Now People are going to share a bill with her
sometime soon. Some friends and I had the privilege of
playing with Evie at a Christmas show here in LA. What
a voice.

Steve Stanley

Yes, Evie's great - and still around. Catch her 1998 CD
"Women in prison" on TrainWreck 009. You can find "The
roll", a rare 60s b-side, on "Rockin' Boppin' Girls
(Titanic 5000) and a few tracks - Take me for a little
while / Run home to your Mama / I can't let go on "The
Red Bird Story" - Charly CD LAB 105. It would be nice do
see someone release her brilliant A&M recordings on CD.

Will:

I have not seen any reissues of Evie Sands music at all.
I love her and have been collecting her records. I am
dying to know her life story too (I am a biography hound).

Does anyone know anything about her, or if anything has
been printed about her.

I also think there were more record releases in the 60's
than have been documented in some record discographies.

Anyone have a list of her songs or records that they
think is fairly complete?

Thanks,
Glynis

Billy mentioned the stereo Crystals recordings...I
mentioned a whole bunch of Spector stereo recordings I
just got my hands on. Is this something overlooked by
the "Back To Mono" crowd? Or is just too insignificant
to warrant data from the knowledge pool...What gives?
Was the mono man really stereo as well??

It isnt!! This is Not a True Stereo mix, altho it does
sound passably like one. It is a "Digitally Extracted
Stereo" mix, meaning that someone loaded the mono track
into Pro Tools, duped the mono into two identical tracks,
then sampled the backing music from the INTRO, where no
vocals are, then used the reduction pallet to remove the
backing leaving the vocal on the right side. However, as
is the problem with the computer aided stereo, the
vocals that remained are SERIOUSLY degraded with the
dreaded computer voice syndrome, that leaves the
"metallic", "robotic" tone to the vocals.

That's how this one was done.

I'm curious about this as well - it sounds like the final
(two track) master before Phil overdubbed the tom hits on
the hook lines. I have posted "Then He Kissed Me" and
"Heartbreaker" in a similar format, but I've no idea
where they came from.

Hi This is a good question: what other stereo mixes are
there by the Crystals?

Also here's a quote from Larry Levine in Rob Finnis's
Spector biography:

"I think probably the only time another instrument was
added to the rhythm track was on Da Doo Ron Ron. The
session was pretty straightforward but afterwards Phil
decided that the beat between choruses needed to be
emphasised and Nino Tempo went back in with an ordinary
bass drum and a pair of mallets and dubbed in the 'Da
dum' bass drum thuds between lines. He could never
stomach adding another instrument because he felt it
would never feel like it was part of the flow of the
thing"

And those drum thuds are not on the stereo mix.

Good listening
Paul

Hello Carol. How nice to see you here, we are all
enjoying your posts and remembrances.

Please settle a bet for me. Did you ever play any of
the Bass tracks on ANY of the Ventures records, and if
so, do you remember which ones? Hal Blaine seems to have
played drums on The Ventures version of "Wipe Out" and
"More"...perhaps you were on that session as well?

thank you So much...a big hello from New York City,

Mikey

...I recently heard that from Napster also.

Someone told me that it is from an import cd called The
Ultimate Crystals. I have this cd but all the tracks on
my cd are mono. It has been assumed the cd was re
released with the stereo track. Also it is supposed to
have Then He Kissed me in stereo but I have heard that
version too and it is very narrow stereo.
