Hi All -

There's a scene in Good Morning Vietnam where Robin
Williams introduces a record by "The Dawnbusters." The
song sounds alot like the Dave Clark 5, but I can not
figure out who it really is (it's not on the soundtrack,
and there's no group by that name that I've been able to
find).

Any suggestions?

Marc

Jamie Carr was definitely involved with Archies
recordings, according to Joey Levine. He also co-wrote
songs with Ron Dante for The Globetrotters (the
wonderful single "Cheer Me Up") and for Ron's excellent
1970 solo album on Kirshner.

Another possible Archies backing vocalist was Leslie
Miller. Mark Barkan told me that she and Ron often sang
demos for him.

I've heard that The Crystals were the first group to
release "On Broadway" commercially, but that The Cookies
were actually first to record the song. I adore The
Crystals' version, by the way. I adore The Drifters'
hit, too. I don't think I've ever heard a bad version
of this song!

As to "Please Be My Boyfriend," there is an unreleased
Jeff Barry-Ellie Greenwich-Phil Spector song called "I
Want You To Be My Boyfriend." Could it be the same?

That movie left a real impression on me: that whole creepy
sequence with the gang fight really stayed with me. Now,
question: Is this the film where Dezzie [?] and her
girlfriends are dancing in the basement to "Da Doo Ron Ron,"
and later dancing a line dance as she calls out different
moves? I may be mistaken, but when John mentioned "The
Wanderers," these sequences popped into my head... any
ideas? These dance thing smay be from a different, though
similar movie.

Which two are those? I have this CD, but I've always
been confused about what's on it. Are all the tracks
produced by Spector?

What is the URL for Diane Renay's new web site?
