Hi John, This 45 from 1963 is listed on recordmaster.com at: http://www.recordmaster.com Looks like they did another 45 for ABC, also from 1963. Don't know anything about the group, though. I'd be keen to hear the Titanic track as this small label is the home to one of my faves: Kell Osborne's "Quicksand", also from 1963. This is exactly the approach I would recommend anyone taking when starting a project, whether in the music business or not. > I am hoping that perhaps Mark Lindsay, who I hear will be > compiling and releasing his audio archives over the next few > years This is wonderful news. A great looking guy who was a talented band member, lead vocalist and who knew what he was doing in the control booth. Bring it on. Videotapes Good thing about a lot of the bootleg video comps is that there is a good equal mix of video and kines that are presented. If the b/w "Hullabaloo" clips are from kinescopes, they're pretty good ones, as I don't have any problem with the non-color clips on the DVDs, although I realize with a commercial release there's more chance for full restoration. The "Where The Action Is" kinescopes are just horrible in some cases. Really, really too bad. As far as TV music clips go, I'd have to say my favorites are from "Beat Beat Beat" and "Beat Club." The picture quality is generally excellent, with the main difference in the clips being that "Beat Beat Beat" was mostly live performances, while "Beat Club" was mimed. Lots of interesting guests on those German shows. Dave -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------

I'm sure all our fellow musicians can relate! And the Gold Star site is great, too: http://goldstarrecordingstudios.com. Dave Marshall, I agree with your confused feelings re: Brian Wilson touring. He isn't the old Brian, that's certain; but having seen him twice - the "Pet Sounds" orchestra tour and then as the first half of a twin bill with Paul Simon, I'm ready to go again. Seeing him do "Pet" was an almost holy experience, and the Simon tour was just fun, fun, fun. He's alive (miracle of miracles) and willing to get out there, and I'm glad he is and willing, yea eager, to go see him. (For anything more on this, I defer to Mark Wirtz, who said it better than I can.) And by the way, while Paul Simon seemed much more spontaneous and "involved" in his set, he didn't come off as the sanest guy on the block that night either - not dangerous, just odd. Two different kinds of edginess; all in all, it was quite an evening. In closing, special kudos to Artie Wayne's website. Great story and pics - thanks for all the effort that went into it. I read about it in different books, to say > nothing of numerous websites... Mystery... For me I suppose it's because the Bon Bons on Coral sound very much, vocally, like the Shangri-Las. Especially on the fabulous "Each Time" when, close your eyes and listen, it IS the Shangri-Las. In your mind, anyway..... Peter -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------

Rio Grande revisited? Interesting point Stratton. Myself, I'd reckon the young painter had dropped all the paints and brushes on the canvas. I'll forward your thoughts to Mr Foskett for his consideration. Rio Grande revisited - I very much doubt it! Kingsley -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------

I have an amazing Japanese pressing of this t'rrific LP on clear Orange Vinyl....Just too beautiful. Have to agree how great it is though. Apart from the too kitschy treatment of "If I Were A Bell" it also includes the swimmingly romantic "Dance With Me" and the 'should've been a single' "Life and Soul of the Party". It wasn't really rock music, but more adult but still with plenty of soul! -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------
Message: 9 Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2003 14:54:34 EST From: Brian Ferrari Subject: Scopitone questions Hey Spectropoppers - I need help in identifying the artists in two Scopitones that I have on videotape. There are no names accompanying them. One is a man singing "Da Do Ron Ron" in french. (yes, it's pretty funny). The other is the song "Wheel of Fortune" - the vocal sounds like it's actually the LaVern Baker version, but the woman in the Scopitone is quite white. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated - Thanks! Brian Ferrari -------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------
