Hello JJ,
I will pull the album out soon and post details here in the near
future (gotta remember where I put it!) The album is mainly songs
by contemporary songwriters, one that I can remember off the top
of my head is a version of Tim Buckley's "Goodbye and Hello" which
is quite good and clocks in at about eight minutes. The entire
album is somewhat "pop-folk" in style and largely acoustic-guitar
based, with some orchestration. I guess I would compare it to
Donovan, Tim Hardin, and Nick Drake.

Actually, Mike has been a pretty busy guy. After the DC5, he
teamed for a while with Mike D'Abo from Manfred Mann and they
released an album called Smith & D'Abo on Columbia. Mike has
also produced a number of artists, including Shirley Bassey
and John Christie. If you think you recognized Mike's voice
on TV and radio commercials for a certain "Cola" product,
American Airlines and other major corporate advertising campaigns,
you were correct! Mike has been writing and producing jingles
and commercials for nearly 25 years. He's also been writing
and producing radio station liners and jingles for stations
all around the world. He currently lives in the south of Spain,
where he continues to produce both for radio and TV and
select recording artists.
Mike Smith's Rock Engine toured the US east coast last March
to sellout crowds, with the final tour date played at the Rock
& Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. That was a "test the waters"
one month tour. It was very successful and plans are now being
made for a full US tour which may happen during August and
September of this year!
Recognition of Mike Smith's contributions to music and enormous
talents are long overdue. Dave Clark may have been the business
end of the DC5, but Mike was its music and heart. Bravo, Mike!
Cheers!

Ron,
I'll play Rydell's version of "The River Is Wide" as soon as
space allows on musica.

Hi Amber,
Yep I got that, the gig looks a goodie and despite having
gone out twice this year already I'll try and get to it.
Naturally if you could promise to be there...

I'm sure this has been answered already but in case not, it
was The Toys on DynoVoice, written and produced by Sandy
Linzer and Denny Randell. I believe the melody is based on
something classical as was their "Lover's Concerto".
Randell was an under-appreciated arranger. Nice guy--real
unpretentious.
Last time I saw him, Linzer had gone to CBS and become a suit.
