I'm not one to butt in regarding artists. But with Joanie
    Sommers
I felt that I should. I saw Joanie perform here in
Las Vegas about 4 years ago at the Desert Inn. Her show
lasted about an hour. For that one hour show, she gave it
all she had. She did a commendable performance. My wife &
I met with her & her Mother after the show; they were very
    nice people.

I have spoken with Joanie recently, and she is going to
be a part of "Pioneers of Rock & Roll", along with Dodie
Stevens, ("Pink Shoe Laces"), and of course 85 other
    performers.

This is a show that we have been working on for almost
three years, getting enough performers to fill the line up.
We now have our web-site 99.9% completed, It took 7
months to complete that incredible task. After a few
meetings with some Las Vegas Hotels, (We've turned down 2
so far), we have a strong possibility with the Mandalay
Bay Hotel/Casino. They are owned by the Circus Circus
Enterprises, which also owns Circus Circus, Excalibur,
Luxor, and Mandalay Bay. The 4 properties combined have
about 12,000 hotel rooms. That's 10% of the rooms in Vegas.
With the C-C Properties, it will give us a better way of
promoting Concert packages at different price ranges. The
Mandalay Bay Resort has a state of the art Arena, that
seats 12.000 fans. The arena is booked solid through
January, 2000. We are looking at the week after
Valentine's Day, (Wednesday-Saturday). to do this 4 day
Concert. This will be the single greatest Rock & Roll
Concert in the History of Rock & Roll . This will also be
the largest concert that has ever been done, with all
original performers from the 50's & 60's. Anyone
interested in seeing what will take place, go to:

    Claudia,

Actually, Joanie Sommers (the correct spelling) was best
known for her top ten song from 1962 "Johnny Get Angry."
And she did do some jingles on TV for Pepsi Cola in the 60's.

"Pink Shoe Laces" was a top ten hit for 13-year-old Dodie
    Stevens in 1959.

Joanie today? Good question! But yesterday's Joanie has
been archived by the Japanese Soft Rock admirers and is
available as an import for about $33. from Collector's
Choice catalog. BTW/wasn't "Pink Shoe Laces" by Dodie
    Stevens?

I was very pleased. The bio dealt with all the bad parts
of Brian's life in a dignified manner. It didn't gloss
over them, and didn't go too deeply into the sordid
    details, either.

As promised, there was loads of rare or previously unseen
footage. It seems that Brian Wilson got himself on film
quite a bit, even before the Beach Boys. Film of Brian
driving his '57 Ford, of Judy Bowles, etc. Film of him
having a temper tantrum and banging the door with his
fists. Was that a Good Vibrations video I saw?

The most promising part was the footage of his current
live show near the end. Though the vocals were obviously
canned (Brian always does this for taped performances),
and Brian wasn't lip syncing too well, it WAS his voice,
and it sounded clearer and higher than it has in years. If
he can still sing high that well, why didn't he do it on
    "Imagination?"

"Smile will never be released. The tapes are destroyed."
And unable to keep a straight face while saying it. I
think we all know that the tapes are not destroyed.

I was surprised at Ginger Blake's take on Brian's new life

    -
"this is Brian Wilson in surrender, in defeat." As much
as she knows about Brian's past, how can she feel that
way? And Diane Rovell was always presented as "Family
Friend," not "ex sister in law."

All in all, this was the best so far. If a movie is ever
made, I hope it is done as well.

Sorry, that was mid-70s and don't know who did that. Think
the group cut their own things.

BTW, I wanted to clarify it that it was Earl Palmer (not
Hal Blaine) who cut the "Hold Me Thrill Me" on drums for
    our Mel Carter hit.

I got that mixed up but just got the verification from
Russ Wapensky (see my Message Board for some hits by Earl
Palmer, Jan & Dean stuff too) who has the authentic
Musicians Union studio musicians' contracts on his data

Uhhh....what? First effort and English singer?!?! The
Lilys have released FOUR albums and the singer, Kurt (who
really is the group: he seems to fire and hire new
musicians for every album he makes), is *definitely*
american! I still think their first album "In The
Prescense Of Nothing" is the best, although it's a
complete rip-off of My Bloody Valentine (my favourite
group, next to the Beach Boys and Harpers Bizarre!). The
Lilys have started to sound more and more like the Kinks
for every release since then, which isn't a good thing in
    my book.

I take it nobody on the list bought the new Randy Newman
    album..well, I did, and it's great so nernernernerner... ;)

In the neighborhood where Rydell grew up, Sinatra was
omnipresent as cheesesteaks. Although compared to Avalon,
early Rydell had a bad boy image, he performed "standards"
even in his early days, just as Bobby Darin and Frankie
    Avalon did.

Some of Rydell's songs are some of his silliest on the
surface: "The Fish;" "The Cha Cha Cha"; and "Forget Him,"
    a boy's girl-group song.

We talk a lot about hits on this list...it got me thinking
...has the music industry always been as focused on making
hits as it seemingly has from the sixties and onwards. Do
you older listees (50 or older) remember if the term "hits
" was used so extensively during yr childhoods? To me it
seems like as if the Al Jolsons and Fred Astaires of yore
didn't have the constant pressure to "score a hit" and
then release a just as successful "follow-up" hit, and on
and on and on....that whole concept, or frame of mind,
begun with rock in the late fifties, as far as I can tell.
..it was obviously there from the beginning but it wasn't
    as cynical, perhaps.

Does any of this make any sense?! I'm too tired to think
    properly :)

    Hi, everyone

This is Daniel Rozic, from Zagreb, Croatia. I am a big
    fan of the 60's music. I run a late-night radio-show on a
small radio-station nearby Zagreb, every friday from 11.00
PM to 01.00 AM. My show started 1993. on the 30th
anniversary of The Beatles debut. I decided to start this
radio-show because I am very fond of musicians like the
Fab Four, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Swinging Blue Jeans,
Hollies, Herman's Hermits, Kinks, Yardbirds, Moody Blues
    and many many more.

In a word, I like the British music from the Sixties.

In my radio-show I also present American music. My
favourites from that decade are "The Byrds", "Beach Boys",
"Young Rascals", Detroit sound, Phil Spector's production...

Please, would you be so kind and make top-10 list your
favourites songs and artist from the Sixties.
     Thank you very much.

     Best regards.
     Daniel from Zagreb, Croatia.
