Was it Hal Blaine on drums? Greetings all. I'm new to the site. Just found the following message from November of last year regarding a Joannie Sommers tune "Don't Pity Me". To answer Jake Tassell's questsion, the tune was recorded at United, along with "Listen To The World", "My Block", and "When He Needs Me". The session leader on the date was Tommy Oliver. Hal Blaine played drums and Leon Russell was on piano. The date of the session was 3/19/65. I hope this answers your questions. I've got a book on Leon Russell called "Longhair Music: The Leon Russell Story" which will be out at the end of the year. It will list this and many other sessions from the AFM in Hollywood that Leon played on. Check out the progress on my website: www.mazeppa.com. This is a great site. I'll come here often and hopefully can contribute something worthwhile. Gary was nice to work for, had some good ideas and used our bunch of studio musicians....with various different ones. He had some better rock stuff that's for sure. I don't think he knew of my prior jazz guitar 50s work (it was about that same time, early 60s, I turned down George Shearing, to go on the road with his fine group). Hardly any of the young rockers knew any of us were jazz musicians.....we kept that quiet. But was glad to get the studio work, it paid off, helped me raise my 3 children, take care of my mom etc. Best, Carol Kaye http://www.carolkaye.com/ --------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------- Message: 3 Date: Sun, 10 Sep 2000 22:12:11 +0200 From: Tobias Subject: Re: Stephen McParland Does anybody know where I can get hold of McParland's book "The Wilson/Usher Project"? I tried with Pet Sounds in Newcastle, but they don't seem to find a copy of it either...could I perhaps order a copy directly from McParland himself? Jake, I looked through my records and found the following Proby/Nitzsche studio collaboration in 1963 recorded at the studios of Liberty Records for a release on their label (#55588): "So Do I"/"I Can't Take It Like You Can".
