Subject: Lonely Surfer
My boyfriend recently dug out an old copy of "Lonely
Surfer" by Jack Nitzsche from his collection; a great
1963 instrumental featuring a Duane Eddy-like intro and
climaxing with French horns...a classic.
Does anyone know the prominent studio folk who were
onboard for this recording? Was it recorded at Gold Star?
I told my boyfriend I'd ask.
Thanks so much ....
Claudia Cunningham

Subject: The Orchids
Hello:
"The Harlem Tango" written by Goffin and King with the
flip side "That Boy Is Messing Up My Mind" by Jeff and
Ellie is pure delight. I'm wondering who The Orchids are?
This certainly sounds a lot like Darlene Love to me and on
"The Harlem Tango" it certainly sounds like Carole King
banging away at the keys. Any info would be greatly
appreciated. Has this 45 been compilied anywhere on cd? A
real fine gem for us Brill collectors.

A number of years ago, I heard a rock historian on Radio
Luxembourg say that Jackie Ward did the original version
of the Cascades "Rhythm of the Rain". I never read this
anywhere else. Was it a demo? Does anyone have it? Any
info?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Folks:
Nice to read some conversation about Tommy.
In the mid-70's Tommy released a 45rpm called "Glitter and
Gleam"....it may have been on Monument. Felton Jarvis who
had worked with Tommy earlier and was recording Elvis at
the time produced it. Does anyone know if it's included on
any of the reissues?
Cheers
WC

Thanks Ian, for the scoop on that faux Spector acetate. I
had high hopes after rediscovering that pic and thanks for
the info on the Lesley cd with liner notes from Mick.
You mention Darlene saying it was recorded by them as more
like her version of Chapel Of Love, that`s far from what I
would have imagined, I would imagine it to be more like
the pounding Da Doo Ron Ron. That`s how I always imagined
a Spector version of that song sounding like. I am also
interested in hearing some of those "erect-a-spector"
songs that show up in the old Philatelies, I have heard a
few but not most of them.
