Hi Carol, thanks , once again for sharing with us.It was
great to read your last post on Phil`s recording
technique etc...And the whole Gold Star experience.I
could read about that stuff all day. It`s great that you
were there making history and to be on line all these
years later sharing with us all.

I just "discovered" a great song.

It's on the Thunder Alley soundtrack, it's sung by
Annette Funicello and it's called "When you get what you
want".

The writing credit is listed as Hemric/Styner.

The production is very "lo-fi" and in some ways very
modern. I think I could sneak this song onto any number
of records today. Yo La Tengo, Hi-Llamas, Magnetic
Fields... and no one would be the wiser.

Part of what makes it sound so contemporary to me, I
think, is Annette's flat lifeless delivery which reminds
me of a lot of stuff I love.

Find this song if you haven't heard it.

Today I heard the Crystals' cut on the radio, and it was
very slow. The vocals were deep, too.

The hit 45 was speeded up by Phil, as so many other
producers did, too?

Doc
