I recently heard his rendition of "When a Boy Falls in Love"...Great! I always loved the full orchestral sound behind all his stuff. I see he is currently touring, to my great delight. Anyone? This Friday, October 27 the Berklee College of Music Bass Ensemble here in good ol' Boston is presenting a tribute to the bass-stylings of our own Carol Kaye by presenting arrangements of many of the songs on which she played... Congratulations to Carol and the integrity of Soft Pop...JB --------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------- Message: 3 Date: Mon, 23 Oct 2000 19:23:11 EDT From: Jimmy Subject: Spector Speeded Up I've heard "Da Doo Ron Ron" played at slower speeds on the radio, in marked contrast to wht I hear on my trusty old 45 RPM. I've always bveen curious about that... any clues? Although the Mark Ribowsky book talks about Phil recording in mono, it doesn't say anything about Back To Mono. When did Phil do this? Was it the result of a record he'd produced not being as successful as it could have been? All the best, Kieron --------------------[ archived by Spectropop ]-------------------- Message: 5 Date: Tue, 24 Oct 2000 22:50:33 -0400 From: Jack Madani Subject: Mikey Nesmith/Ricky Nelson? I just got the Monkees two-cd set, my first Monkees on cd. All my favorite tracks are here, plus the booklet is good as well. My first impression was that boy, those Jeff Barry productions are the best. But then I suddenly noticed that Mike's "Papa Gene's Blues" really sounds a lot--a LOT--like a Ricky Nelson sort of track. Naturally, James Burton's guitar is the direct connection, but it seems to me that it goes further than just that. The whole song has a kind of Ricky Nelson sound, calling to mind none other than "Hello Mary Lou" itself. FYI. The British group, is encouraging people to download it and, as the title suggests, pass it along. "Pass It Along (MP3 mix)" was created as "a reaction to the hokum that opposing file sharing is somehow linked to artistic integrity," according to a statement by a spokesperson for Chumbawamba. Chumbawamba vocalist Dunstan Bruce says, "It's hilarious listening to the big record companies bleating on about how file sharing is damaging art. They wouldn't recognize art or artistic integrity if they bounded over and bit them on the arse."" http://www.chumba.com/sounds/MP3Pass.mp3 Pass It Along... I just got the Spector Back to Mono boxset. I noticed Lenny Bruce is listed under musicians, but didn't see which song. So does anyone know which track he played on? He's credited for percussion & background vocals. Back to lurking now... Thanks!
